About PK

“One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again." -Abraham Maslow

I am so blessed and honored to announce that I will be attending the University of Missouri-Kansas City, School of Dentistry in the Fall of 2021! I will become a Dentist in the United States Navy! 🦷🥼🧑🏽‍⚕️

In 2016, I began matriculation of my undergraduate studies at Thee Jackson State University. Where I later received my B.S. in Chemistry, with a minor in Biology and concentration in pre-dentistry in the Fall of 2019.

This journey of mine has been like no other. From applying twice, rejection letter after rejection letter, editing my personal statement many times to retaking the DAT three times, it has certainly been a hard journey. To be honest, I wouldn’t change a single thing. This entire process has made me better equipped to help serve my fellow pre-dental peers and brought forth the idea of “Pre-Denting W/PK, LLC”.

My support system, mainly my father, mother, sister and significant other and my faith has brought, me to this point and I am ever so grateful and even more motivated to be great! There were times when I doubted myself. I didn’t think I may be good enough to pursue this prestigious profession of dentistry, and I encountered many trials and tribulations to deter me from this path. With perseverance, drive, and trust, the limits are endless.

I have experienced having the very people that were supposed to push me hold me back and tell me I couldn't become a dentist and that I wasn't going to make it out of the Mississippi Delta where I spent a great deal of my childhood. The only thing that those negative comments did to me was make me want to go even harder! Both my parents are educators and have been for more than 20 years. I have been able to discern when I have instructors that are truly for student success and have a passion for education. After having the pleasure to be a student in Dr. Mike's Health class at Jackson State University freshman year, his passion was clear as day! It is because of professors and mentors like him that make me want to continue to break the stigma of African Americans in Healthcare and that reminds me to remember to pay it all forward.

Forthrightly, my motivation derives from my stalwart belief in God, my family’s prevailing sentiments towards excellence, and my personal acceptance of the various challenges to succeed. Therethrough, all my endeavors I am as ever imbued thereby my Judeo-Christian epistemology. I am intrinsically charged by my varied experiences afforded therein my ethnicity and gender. Therefore, from the aforementioned perspectives, I persevere to manifest my predestined healthcare professional service.

Lastly, having witnessed my immediate family members lifelong professional public service, and knowing the value of impressions and the connotations that a facial grimace conveys, I want to contribute to the world's perception of my country. Through dentistry, I can personally impact the world’s perception of my country by ensuring that my shipmates and servicemen are smiling liberators.

There’s a white coat with my name on it and I’m after you Dr. Hollins, DDS.

Dentist in the making,

Precious K. Hollins
